OBTAINING CERTIFICATES FROM THE UNITED STATES

If you are interested in filing for dual citizenship (birth registration) for you or your child, or in applying for a US passport at the United States General Consulate in Guadalajara, we at Olguín & La Conte will take care of all the filings needed for you to get a recent birth certificate, either an abstract or the complete form, in any of the 50 states of the United States of America.

You must have a copy of the birth certificate for this procedure or at least know the registration data such as name, date of birth, birthplace (city and county) and parents’ names.

DOCUMENT APOSTILLES

An apostille is a certification by an authority of the country where the document was issued (birth, death, divorce and marriage certificates). It certifies that the signature of the official issuing the document or the official seal of a public office is genuine.

Olguín & La Conte offers the service of obtaining an apostille in any of the states of the United States of America.

If your certificate needs an apostille, we can file for and obtain it with no problem whatsoever; it takes about 3 to 4 weeks to get the certificate and apostille. If the procedure is urgent, ask one of our advisors who will explain what options are quicker.

CORRECTIONS OR AMENDMENTS TO U.S. BIRTH CERTIFICATES

If your United States birth certificate has mistakes in the names of your parents, the date of birth, birthplace or any spelling mistake that does not affect your name, or if there are items left blank, we can file for any correction needed in your certificate, enabling you to file for dual citizenship.

The procedure takes about 60 days and we can also acquire the APOSTILLE for your corrected or amended certificate.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF PATERNITY IN UNITED STATES BIRTH CERTIFICATES

If the father could not be present at the time you registered your child in the United States and his name does not appear on the certificate, we can make all the filings with United States authorities to achieve acknowledgment of paternity, resulting in the issuance of a new birth certificate in which the father’s name appears.
